Google may have discontinued the Chromecast hardware, but a new firmware update for Samsung TVs will add Google Cast support to all 2026 models as well as select older models – possibly until 2023.
This means you no longer need a Galaxy smartphone with Samsung’s Smart View feature enabled to share media, giving Android users more flexibility.

While there were previously rumors that Google Cast would be natively supported on all new Samsung TVs in 2026, reddit Users have reported that the Tizen update v2115 has started rolling out to the 2024 and 2025 models.
Which Samsung TV models will get the update?
Android Authority It has been reported that the models will also get Tizen OS update from 2023, but it has not been confirmed whether they will also get Google Cast support or not. As with any update, it may take several weeks (or even months in some cases) for firmware to be available for all applicable Samsung TVs.
To make sure you’re included in the rollout, you’ll need to either enable automatic updates or check for the latest firmware version in your Samsung TV’s menu.
It appears that the v2115 update also includes support for universal gestures through the Galaxy Watch, so users can expect additional performance changes. Just don’t expect Samsung to make any major breakthroughs with this update. But for those few who can finally stream content directly from their Android and Chrome-powered devices, the wait has been worth it.
What about non-Samsung TVs?
If you have a smart TV that uses the Google TV platform, you already have built-in support for sharing media from both Android and iOS devices. Google Cast is also supported by LG’s webOS, which enables media sharing without the need for Google’s now-discontinued Chromecast dongle.
