The form factor is hard to ignore. Apple’s foldable iPhone coming this September has been widely reported to open up to a 7.8-inch 4:3 display. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is said to have a 7.6-inch internal screen with a similarly compact, wide footprint. That device is reportedly heading to the July Unpacked event. Both still have several months left.
The Huawei Pura X Max, if it arrives on April 20, will outperform both of these.
Actually this whole trend was started by Huawei. The original Pura X Max adapts that concept to a larger book-style design. A separate follow-up to the original clamshell, the Pura X2, is also reportedly due out later this year.
One thing worth noting is that Huawei phones launch in China and rarely reach Western markets. As of April 20, none of these have been confirmed. But the renders look credible, the specifications are distinctive, and the form factor is exactly where both Apple and Samsung are going. Huawei might get there first.
