Salma Hayek is increasing her influence in the industry.
Reportedly, the fashion mogul has announced the disease-inspired sleepwear range, Cie La Vie by Selma Blair collection, in collaboration with women-owned lifestyle brand Mercia.
The collection was reportedly born out of Selma Blair’s own experiences following her diagnosis with multiple sclerosis (MS).
Recalling how receiving luxury loungewear helped her feel cared for during treatment, she said, “I was going through a lot of treatments, and I was recently diagnosed (with multiple sclerosis) … and I got this really amazing care package in the mail.”
“I was in bed, but in these cashmere pieces,” Blair recalled, “while I was being treated in the hospital, I was also wearing things that felt rich, and I felt like I was being taken care of.”
While the collection aims to provide comfort and “rich” textures for people going through difficult times, the launch has faced a wave of criticism online regarding the commercialization of health struggles. RadarOnline.com.
“There’s a real undercurrent of trolling around it,” the insider explained.
“People are saying she’s profiting from her illness, which is a cruel accusation considering what she’s been through.”
A second source said, “It has sparked debate about where the line is between raising awareness and commercializing the diagnosis,” noting, “Not everyone is comfortable with how it is being presented.”
