“God raised up this Jesus, and we are all witnesses to it… Therefore let all Israel be confident of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”
Acts 2:32,36
christ lives to rule
King Cyrus of Persia, King David of Judah, Caesar Augustus of Rome – these are three of the countless men who have ruled nations and empires throughout the centuries. Some kings and empires lasted for generations, while others were short-lived. As different as they may be from each other, they all had one thing in common – they didn’t last.
How uncertain life would be if we had to depend only on these passing kings and empires. Our immortal souls need something else. How eagerly, then, we listen to the words of the apostle Peter. He tells us about a very great king. This King is Lord Jesus Christ. Peter tells us of a very great kingdom. Jesus’ kingdom will last forever.
However, it did not always seem that way. Jesus’ enemies plotted for years to kill Jesus. Eventually, they carried out their plans and crucified Him. He did not seem like a king whose kingdom would last forever.
But then came Easter. Jesus’ disciples ran towards an empty tomb. He had got up. He was still king and his kingdom was still intact.
Today, let Peter’s words give you strength. Be assured of this: Your King lives to rule. He is the master of your heart. He is your eternal source of forgiveness and hope.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, by your resurrection from the dead you proved that you are my Savior and Lord. May your sure promises of forgiveness and life inspire me not only to believe in you but also to live for you. Amen.
