Eddie Murphy is one of the few stars that Dave Chappelle respects. So, it was no surprise when he took to the stage to honor the great comedian; He had to give his all.
Chappelle, his co-star in The Nutty Professor, praised his fellow comic, who received the coveted gong at the 51st AFI Life Achievement Awards.
“You were the hero I was worried about. Man, when you came on, it felt lonely. You were alone. It was you, Michael Jackson, Rick James, and Prince. All of them are dead, and somehow you survived,” he shares.
However, Chappell did not stop there.
The comedian revealed that he had proposed to Murphy to join him in a possible reboot of his hit Chappelle’s Show.
“In the middle of the conversation, it was Eddie who said, ‘Man, you should do a Chappelle Show movie or something.’ And I said, ‘Man, this is going to be hard. He is your brother.’ So Eddie, if I do this, man, play Charlie and let’s do shit,’” Chappelle recalls, referring to Murphy’s late older brother Charlie, who was a key part of the show.
