The King of Pop is back as Jafar Jackson, whose stellar performance is in the biopic of his Uncle Michael.
As the US premiere of the Lionsgate-highly-anticipated film began in Los Angeles on Monday, the focus was on how reactions unfolded on social media following the screening.
However, there is a review embargo, which will be lifted on April 22 before the film’s theatrical release on April 24.
Yet the biopic, directed by Antonick Smith, has received a great response for its debut on the internet.
Matthew Belloni, founding partner of Puck News, says, “Jafar Jackson in Michael is unreal. I know the voice was assisted, but the demeanor and the dance moves and the overall presence is really amazing to watch.”
Echoing his sentiment, NextBigPicture journalist Daniel Howarth says, “Jafar Jackson is tremendous in Michael, so much so that you actually forget he’s not the real thing. An off-the-charts performance.”
“The rest of the film is as generic as you can imagine. Fans will love the musical performances, but sadly there is no humanity behind them.”
In addition to Jackson, Michael stars Colman Domingo, Nia Long, and Miles Tatler.
