mustard seed confidence in business
In Jesus’ Parable of the Mustard Seed, “He answered, ‘Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.'” – Matthew 17:20
Does God work miracles in business? Is he concerned about the mountains we face in our working lives? Does He want us to bring everyday problems we face in the workplace to His attention? The answer to each of these questions is yes. God wants to be involved in every aspect of our lives.
Gunnar Olsson, Swedish founder of the International Christian Chamber of Commerce, tells a story of God working a miracle in his business a few years ago. He owns a plastics company in Sweden. They make the giant plastic bags that are used to cover hay bales on farms across Europe.
It was harvest season and they were preparing to ship thousands of pallets of these bags to their customers. More than 1,000 pallets were ready for shipping when a shocking discovery was made. Every bag on the warehouse floor was sealed from top to bottom. Scientists declared the entire stockpile as useless waste. Nothing could be done. The company will go out of business.
Gunnar, his wife and children turned to the Lord in prayer regarding this calamity. The Holy Spirit spoke through various members of the family. The wife said, “If God can turn water into wine, then what are plastics?” The daughter said, “I don’t believe this is from God. We must stand up against it.” Gunnar realized that in this situation he had to trust God for a miracle. They started praying.
They took possession of this mountain of trouble based on Matthew 17, which gave them authority to throw a mountain into the sea if faith was only the size of a mustard seed.
The following Monday he went to the warehouse and, placing his hands on each pallet, asked God to restore the bags to their original position. This took several hours. Later the employees started checking the bags. As they inspected the bags, they discovered that each bag had been restored to its original condition! An incredible miracle had happened.
What obstacles have come up in your life that require a miracle today? Is God setting the stage in your life to trust Him on a new level in which you have never trusted before? God has set the stage to allow His power to be revealed to those willing to have faith the size of a mustard seed. With God all things are possible.
