The bloc’s relations with its largest trading partner are under increasing scrutiny.
More than one million Europeans have signed a petition calling on the EU to suspend trade deals with Israel over its atrocities in Gaza.
Three member states – Spain, Ireland and Slovenia – introduced a resolution supporting the call.
But Israel’s allies Germany and Italy blocked the move.
Changes to the bloc’s foreign policies require the approval of all members.
So, can the EU become a strong force opposing Israeli actions in the Middle East?
Will it stand up for human rights and international law against Washington?
