US Treasury yields remained broadly steady on Wednesday morning after President Donald Trump announced he would indefinitely extend the ceasefire with Iran.
The yield on the 10-year US Treasury note – the key benchmark for US government borrowing – was largely flat at 4.297%.
The 2-year Treasury note yield, which more closely tracks short-term Federal Reserve interest rate policy, was flat at 3.777%. The longer-term 30-year Treasury bond yield was more than a basis point higher at 4.910%.
One basis point is equal to 0.01%, and yields and prices move in opposite directions.
Trump on Tuesday extended the US ceasefire with Iran for two weeks, saying the extension was necessary because Tehran’s government was “severely fragmented”.
He said the ceasefire, which he had earlier said would expire on Wednesday, would continue “until” Iran’s leaders and representatives present a “unified proposal” to end the war with the US and Israel.
The President’s announcement comes after reports that Vice President JD Vance’s expected visit to Pakistan for a second round of peace talks with Iranian officials was put on hold.
Elsewhere, investors are digesting details of Federal Reserve chair nominee Kevin Wersh’s confirmation hearing, which ended on Tuesday.
