Anthropic’s new AI models have been the talk of the town recently, be it cloud or the newly introduced AI model Mythos, big tech companies including Google are investing extensively in these AI products.
Recently, Google’s parent company Alphabet has announced to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic, as the tech giant deepens its partnership with the artificial intelligence startup that is also its rival in the global AI race.
Anthropic said Friday that Google has now pledged $10 billion in cash at a $350 billion valuation to help fund a major expansion of its computing capacity, and will invest another $30 billion if the cloud maker meets performance targets.
The investment comes just days after e-commerce giant Amazon said it would invest up to $25 billion in the startup, which has managed to stand out in the crowded AI industry by focusing on training its models over coding.
Anthropic’s cloud code tools have gained strong popularity among developers.
The company’s annual run-rate revenue surpassed $30 billion this month, up from about $9 billion at the end of 2025.
The startup raised $30 billion in a funding round in February amid strong interest from investors, valuing it post-money at $380 billion, and has received offers worth $800 billion from venture capital firms, according to media reports.
Seeking computing power:
Strong demand for the Cloud family of AI models has led Anthropic to sign several major deals recently to acquire more computing capacity.
Earlier this month, it struck multi-year deals with chipmaker Broadcom and cloud infrastructure firm CoreWave, and is also set to secure about 1 gigawatt of capacity through Amazon’s chips by the end of the year.
Last year, Anthropic said it would invest $50 billion to build data centers in the US to secure the infrastructure to deploy and train its models.
Additionally, earlier this year, a series of plugin releases for Anthropic’s Cowork agent sparked a brutal selloff in global software stocks, as investors weighed the disruptive potential of sophisticated AI tools.
