Meta recently announced that it is making major changes to account management With your new “Meta Account” hubWhich is designed to manage apps and devices in one place. The company says the rollout will happen gradually over the next year, and existing account centers will automatically update to the new interface.
Meta says the change is aimed at streamlining the login process while keeping users safe. As such, users now have the option to set a single password across all Meta services, with the option to use a passkey and biometric login via fingerprint or facial recognition on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. The new login methods will feature 24/7 monitoring and a security check tool to help users manage multi-factor authentication more effectively.
While Meta Account supports Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads, and the Meta Quest headset, WhatsApp will remain optional. Additionally, users will be able to maintain separate meta accounts for different profiles, such as keeping a Facebook account independent from an Instagram account. App-specific privacy settings, such as who can see a Facebook post or tag a user on Instagram, will continue to work exclusively within the respective app.
For families, Meta Accounts will feature a simplified Family Center dashboard, and parents will be able to manage supervised accounts for teens in Instagram, Facebook, and Horizon from one place, eliminating the need to switch between different account views.
Users will receive notifications as their specific accounts change, though Meta says the day-to-day experience of using Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger will remain unchanged.
