Donald Trump’s White House correspondent’s dinner recently suffered a major security breach and the UK’s Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Philip, has just gone on record and expressed his concerns about a potential security risk to King Charles, given that his visit to the other side of the pond is only days away.
according to Sun They have expressed a number of concerns and urged that the trip be “urgently reviewed”.
Sources have come forward and claimed to expect an “update in due course” now that the suspect has been cleared, and any potential changes to the trip will also be updated “as appropriate.”
Phillips also spoke about this “attack on democracy” in conversation with Sky News’ Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips programme.
He claimed there, “It is always shocking when a democratically elected politician is attacked in this way – this is not just an attack on an individual, but an attack on democracy. I am pleased, of course, that Donald Trump has been unharmed and that the perpetrator has been apprehended.”
Per fox news digital Cabinet minister Darren Jones has also spoken about the security concerns that have arisen as a result of the shooting, telling the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme, “As you would imagine, the Government and the Palace were in close co-operation with US counterparts ahead of the visit anyway, and further discussions will take place today before next week.”
What is worth mentioning is that the US President has also addressed the public after this issue occurred. He praised the guard who was shot during the gun battle, as well as law enforcement for the time they had to respond to the gunman.
But it is pertinent to mention that the incident took place just a week after Secret Service Director Sean Curran warned that the agency does not have enough staff to handle any such event, especially considering that two major events are coming up including the FIFA World Cup, 2028 Olympics.
The suspect in question also faces possible federal charges, as revealed Saturday by Jeanine Pirro, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
As for the identity of the attacker, he was a guest at the Washington Hilton and a resident of Torrance, California. His name is Cole Allen, age 31.
