US President Donald Trump was escorted out of the White House correspondents’ dinner following the shooting at the event on Friday.The suspect – identified as a 30-year-old male from California – has been taken into custody by the United States Secret Service.Trump shared CCTV footage of the incident, in which the suspect is seen running towards the event as security officers take up positions.He also shared a photo of the gunman after he was caught by authorities. In the photo, the suspect is seen lying on the ground and surrounded by security personnel.Citing sources familiar with the situation, Fox News reported that the man attempted to go through security with a gun, but was stopped by the Secret Service before entering the ballroom. The suspect has since been taken “offsite”. He urged to continue the event.“The DC Secret Service and law enforcement did a fantastic job one evening. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been captured, and I have recommended that we “let the show go on” but, guided solely by law enforcement.”They will take a decision soon. Despite that decision, the evening will be very different than planned, and we will obviously have to do it again,” Trump said in his Truth Social post.Meanwhile the Secret Service said it is investigating the incident in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department“The U.S. Secret Service, in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department, is investigating a shooting incident near the main magnetometer screening area at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The President and First Lady are safe along with all escorts. One person is in custody. The condition of those involved is not yet known, and law enforcement is actively assessing the situation,” the agency said in a social media post on X.Attendees from the main table were escorted down the hall as agents worked to determine if there was any additional threat. Officials have since indicated that there is no threat, and the building is not being evacuated.However, the outlet also reported that Trump never left the reporters’ dinner venue and remained nearby due to security fears.He was taken to a secure holding area as a precaution and “he wants the show to go on,” Fox News reports.
