MediaTek introduced the direct successors to last year’s Dimensity 7400 and 7400X chipsets. These offer not a generational upgrade but a refresh. Even their names strongly hint at this – Dimension 7450 and Dimension 7450X.
There is no CPU upgrade as both chipsets use the same octa-core setup consisting of 4x Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.6 GHz and 4x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. The GPU is still Mali-G615 MC2.
MediaTek highlights improvements in AI power. This is an increase of 7%, and the company says this is especially noticeable in photography-related AI tasks.
Connectivity is the main upgrade in the two new SoCs. They now use the new 5G R17 modem instead of the R16 in its predecessors. The new modem promises better power efficiency, better performance using 3CC carrier aggregation, and 20% performance gain during transit. The new chips are supposed to restore network connections faster when they exit the dead zone.
So what is the difference between Dimensity 7450 and Dimensity 7450X? The latter offers support for dual-display setup, making it ideal for a budget-friendly foldable smartphone.
The first devices with these SoCs will hit the market in the next few months.
