- Samsung may change the design of the Galaxy S27 by fitting its cameras with Qi2.2 magnetic charging.
- While the redesign is on the table, higher production costs may force Samsung to stick with its older design for another year.
- A final decision probably won’t be seen until early 2027.
Samsung may be planning major changes in the design of its next flagship phone. A new rumor says The Galaxy S27 may change its camera layout to make room for proper magnetic wireless charging.
a report from NaverQuoting a company in Samsung’s supply chain, it has been suggested that this change will let Samsung fully support Qi2.2. This is the magnetic wireless charging standard that works very well on iPhones with MagSafe.
The report states that on the current camera layout The latest Samsung phones block the spot where the magnets go. Samsung is said to be thinking about relocating the lens, but it’s still unclear how it will do it.

Samsung has already dipped its toes into Qi2 compatibility, but current solutions often rely on cases with built-in magnets rather than native hardware.
Cost can be a dealbreaker
The Korean tech giant has not confirmed anything yet. The same report also states that high production costs may force Samsung to abandon the rumored new design. Therefore, the Galaxy S27 may still look largely similar to the previous model.

I like where this is going, but I’m not totally convinced yet. Built-in magnets will make daily use easier, especially for charging and accessories, and it will finally solve a problem Android users have been facing for years. But if that means giving up a clean camera design or worse, worse camera performance just to add magnets, it looks like Samsung is fixing the problem caused by waiting so long.
But if Samsung makes the change, users will get magnetic charging without a case, better support for accessories like wallets, grips and car mounts, and a genuinely new look for the flagship – something that hasn’t happened with the S series in five years.
We likely won’t hear anything official from Samsung until early 2027. Still, with Qi2.2 gaining momentum and Samsung already confirming camera upgrades for future phones, the timing makes sense.
The Qi2 offers more than just convenience. It brings faster wireless charging, better alignment for accessories, and more snap-on add-ons like wallets, stands, and battery packs. Apple has used this approach for years, and now Android brands are starting to follow suit.
