final performance review
“If what he has created survives, he will receive his reward” (1 Cor 3:14).
Have you ever done a performance review? If you’re at work, you probably have one. Employers want to see whether you’ve done what you wanted and whether you’ve done it in a prescribed manner that has yielded results. If you perform well, you will be confirmed and may even get a salary increase. If you do not live up to the expectations, you may even be fired from the job.
The Bible has its own performance review. This is called the judgment seat, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive his due share for what he has done in the body, whether good or bad” (2 Cor 5:10).
The generation that came out of Egypt with Moses is going to have a bad day at the judgment seat because we already know God’s view on the matter. “That’s why I was angry with that generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are always wandering, and they have not known my ways'” (Hebrews 3:10).
The Bible says that there is a way that seems right to man, but its end is death (Proverbs 14:12). There is a way God wants you and I to work on earth. He has given us His Word – our instruction book – to learn how He works.
How well do you know the instruction manual? Have you only read a few parts here and there? Are you well-versed in the intricacies of his methods so that you can deliver a great “performance review” when the time comes?
Take time every day to receive His instructions on how to live your life. Your reward will be very good.
