You all know I love a good day in life. I revisit the archives from time to time to read what life looked like during different phases. Do I continue to add 1/2 to the children’s ages? Perhaps Ha.

It’s a fun time for a Day in the Life post because it’s our last week of collaboration and so we’re on a loose system. The girls are finishing final projects and we won’t get our morning time back until next week. So here’s a glimpse on an April day (Don’t say it, don’t say it, don’t say it) here in the principality! Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. 🙂

    6:15 am

My alarm goes off and I get out of bed. We’re still waiting for a replacement part for our coffee machine, so I poured some water for tea. I take Finley outside for a bit, pour my tea, light a candle, and sit in my cozy chair in the living room to blog while some morning thunderstorms roll in.

    8:30 am

Hailey is up and making breakfast so I open Caitlin’s door to let her in too. Haley’s morning routine includes frying eggs and emptying the dishwasher and setting a small table to eat while watching World Watch. I watch with her as she prepares breakfast for David and me.

This morning we ate scrambled eggs and egg whites with vegetables, avocado toast and strawberries on fresh bread bought from a friend. As always, we had our fiber to wash down on the shore cod liver oil, vitamin DAnd quercetin (for pollen).

Once we all eat, I clean the kitchen, make mental notes of what will be for dinner to make sure I have everything I need, and talk with the girls throughout the day so they each have a plan. Hailey does this job well on her own, in many ways she’s an excellent first-born daughter, and Caitlyn still benefits from some guidance. She succeeds with a written checklist.

    9:15 am

While the girls are busy with their respective tasks, I set myself back at the computer to handle a load of administrative tasks. This includes addressing flagged emails, starting a resume to track Hailey’s eighth grade activities and accomplishments (something we’ll continue through high school), paying some bills, and arranging some details for an upcoming family trip.

    10:15 am

Time to workout! David and I work out together most days, finding a time slot that works for both of us while we eat breakfast. I fill our shakers with creatine and pre-workout. We drink it, refill with aminos and head to the gym for Madeline’s upper body push.

Check out all our gym and fitness favorites here.

We don’t sweat on strength-focused training days, so it’s easier to continue on subsequent days. David jumped straight into the math with Halley. We put him on an accelerated program so he can do Algebra 1 by the end of the summer and geometry his freshman year. I could write a separate blog post on the intensity of college preparation I’ve done over the past six months and how it’s helped shape our high school planning.

I finished my five-minute weekday makeup routine (no makeup no makeup is the star of that show) so check out the progress of cleaning Caitlin’s room.

    12:00 PM

It’s time for lunch! Caitlin and I do math together while making lunch. Nicole the Math Lady teaches and I’m there as a TA.

Freshly ground bread needs to be eaten quickly so I make grilled cheese for the girls while I cook some chicken to top mine and David’s salad. I found these new Farm Flavor Crunchy Pumpkin Seeds and I really love them!

Our lunch: Buffalo chicken salad with Mary’s Gone crackers and cheese as a dip. Why isn’t any other cheese as delicious as Good Culture? I keep trying to move on but it’s not the same.

    12:30 PM

Hailey and I headed out right after lunch. I leave him to teach him piano and music theory and then race to see how many I can accomplish in an hour. I do Amazon returns at Staples, buy some herbs at Lowe’s, return books to the library, while meeting up with some friends at Marco Polo.

    2:30 pm

Back home, I help Hailey with her final research paper. It turns out that the MLA format is still as interesting as it was when I was a kid.

Pollen or hormones (two things I can blame almost anything for) hit me hard around 3:00, so I pulled my feet up on the couch to rest for a while. I ordered cuts of beef for the beef portion we are having next week and am sharing with a friend.

    4:15 pm

Finley was craving some exercise, so David, Hailey and I decided to take him for a walk. She recently pulled back her heavy vest, so I decided to do the same. I can only imagine how nice we would look to the neighbors.

    5:15 pm

We walked 2.5 miles. Back home, Hailey went to play some basketball and I talked David into helping me plant the herbs I picked up at Lowe’s. My goal is to grow a variety of beneficial herbs along the sides of the chicken coop so that they can eat but not destroy. We have planted rosemary, lavender and two types of oregano.

Then it was time to take care of my chicken chores. I like to go in once a day and bring them treats, clean up, inspect everything, and collect eggs.

The day before I had only collected two eggs, which was strange. Also strange, when I opened it today, I only found one. We usually average 6-8 per day. I began to wonder if they were laying eggs in the yard now that they could be free all day. However, then I noticed that only eight hens were outside. Concerned about the ninth, I opened the back of the coop to inspect and when I opened, I found…

Ms. Wednesday… maybe getting worried?! Just look at what she was sitting on…

All those eggs!! And a small one too.

She wasn’t thrilled with me when I took her off of me, so now I have to Google what to do about a broody hen. I did get a good laugh out of this situation, though.

    5:45 pm

Back at home, I went to take a shower, then went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. I put the rice to cook, chopped up some veggies, and made the taco meat to create everyone’s current favorite dinner – taco bowls!

Nothing groundbreaking, I realize, but it’s become a weekly staple because every time I make it, everyone raves about how much they enjoy it. Proof that simple is often best. I always have tortillas because Caitlin likes a wrap sometimes and I serve that with her Masa Chips Because I’m obsessed. I just used my code (AHEALTHYSLICE20) to order 10 more bags because with the code you can get a much better price online than you can get in any store.

    7:30 pm

Dinner is over and it’s time for rest. While the girls shower David helps me clean the kitchen and then we all hang out in the living room. We pass around red light face masks (I was recently sent This red light face mask To try and we are all using it to compare and contrast with Highdose Red Light Face Mask).

David and I drink our magnesium drinks and we all watch Mark Robert’s videos together to wrap up the night. making a video of it glitter bomb package Forcing people to steal packages from the front porch was ridiculous!

    9:00 pm

The girls go to bed and I go outside to shut up the chickens and let Finley out for the last time. Then David and I watch our nightly episode of Frasier before falling into a deep sleep by 10:00 p.m.

    And thats a wrap! 🙂
