Keeping up with the latest and greatest apps and games is a tough task, but I’m here to help. Every month, I detail a list of the best new Android apps and games, and this month’s edition is packed with launchers, weather apps, and a selection of great Android games.
Let’s go straight ahead. Here are the best new Android apps and games you should try in May 2026.
Don’t want to miss the best of Android Authority?

key launcher
The best new Android launcher for productivity.
- price: Free/in-app purchases from $2.99
- Developer: Lucify Tech

Key Launcher is different than any Android launcher I’ve used before, and that’s definitely saying something. It’s inspired by the T9 keypad layout, with physical keys you’d find on modern dumb phones and semi-smartphones of the past. This alone doesn’t look so exciting, but how the launcher implements this design is what makes it really exciting.
For starters, the keypad on the home screen serves as a quick search feature that – inspired by the T9 Predictive Smart – lets me find apps with just a few key presses. It also hides several other features, like Vault, quick-dial-like shortcuts, and focus mode.
What is the most important aspect of the Android launcher’s design for you?

Key Launcher comes across as a home screen that’s highly focused on shortening the journey to almost every user action, while offering a great deal of customization for those who enjoy it.
Notably, Key Launcher is free to try, but many features are either limited in capacity or time-limited. To get full access indefinitely you will have to pay for the premium level of the app.
gradually weather
A beautiful weather app with smart alerts.
- price: Free/in-app purchases from $3.49
- Developer: subtle signs

Gradient Weather is quite possibly the most beautiful Android weather app I’ve seen in years. Its clean material-feel layout is colored by the weather conditions itself, making its beauty a practical feature. When it comes to conveying important details, gradients rely on a number of widgets to get the job done.
Above, you’ll find basic conditions, including the current temperature and how it feels. Below, the Hourly Forecast and 7-day Forecast bubbles detail key future parameters, while a larger Today section with a selection of indicators can be found at the bottom of the home screen.
Gradient Weather also packs a nifty alert system that lets me set custom alarms based on conditions and criteria. It also offers a map view of situations and a user-report system to add more social elements.
alpine lines
Mini metro, but for those who enjoy snow.
- price: Free
- Developer: small halteres
Alpine Lines is a quirky, minimalist management game set on the slopes. It starts out relatively simply – you’re essentially connecting different Gondola stations to each other on a topographic map to help skiers cross. But this is just the basic idea.
The sport can quickly turn into a massive snow-side operation, with skiers forming huge queues, prompting you to change routes and plans.
It’s surprisingly soothing but challenging, and really pushes the organization and puzzle-solving section of gray matter. Given the relatively light footprint and demands, Alpine Lines should also run on most devices. The best part is that this game is free to play, ad-free.
librepods
The popular AirPod middleman app finally arrives on the Play Store.
- price: Free
- Developer: Kavish

LibrePods is not a new app; However, it was recently released on the Play Store, opening it up to millions of new potential users.
The app makes the Apple-exclusive audio technology usable on Android devices, including Google Pixels, OPPO and OnePlus phones. As a result, users with these devices can access their AirPods’ conversation awareness smarts, gesture controls, and more.
Nightly builds are still available on the project’s GitHub page, but for those who want a reliable channel for updates or perhaps want to install it on a less technical user’s phone, LibrePods’ presence on the Play Store is great.
sea of stars
2023 A gorgeous Android port of the classic RPG.
- Price: $9.99
- Developer: Playdigious
Finally, let’s end this week’s roundup with a port, which is a great port.
Sea of Stars launched on PC and consoles back in 2023, so it’s been a long, long wait for fans to welcome the game on mobile. At last, that day came.
The RPG puts the gamer in control of one of two characters, Valerie or Zell, in a battle against a big evil named Fleshmancer. The game also offers a massive world, gorgeous visuals, intricately detailed environments, and turn-based combat, while controller compatibility makes Sea of Stars playable on more comfortable hardware.
The game doesn’t offer a free trial, so it’s a buy-to-play deal.
