England fast bowler Mark Wood hopes to return to action with the Three Lions in the summer. Wood is one of the fastest fast bowlers to represent the England national cricket team. Despite his talent and accomplished skill set, his professional cricket career has been quite short.

He is hoping to return to the national cricket team at the end of the summer. If things go as per his plan, he will be back in action after his knee injury.

Mark Wood suffered a knee injury during the first match of the Ashes.

Mark Wood suffered a knee injury during the last Ashes series. In the first match of the five-match Test series against Australia in Perth, the fast bowler suffered a knee injury after bowling only 11 overs and was ruled out of the entire series.

Before the Ashes, he was out of any competitive matches for almost 15 months due to an elbow problem. Due to repeated failures, the 36-year-old player has played only 38 Test matches for the England cricket team so far.

England’s fast bowler determined to make a fresh comeback in the national team

Wood recently said that he could make a comeback in the future, but he did not want to rush it, because it could worsen the condition of his knee. He is going through a slow recovery process to return stronger in white. Last month, Wood had revealed that he was afraid to think about his life after his cricket career if the ongoing rehabilitation process did not go well.

Mark Wood told the BBC in a recent interview, “I need to take it slow. In fact, I’ve probably got another chance to get it right. If I rush into it, it’s no good; it might. I’m still trying to get back into bowling, hopefully later in the summer.”

“You have to keep your eye on the prize, which ultimately for me is, trying to play for England. That’s my focus. It’s very frustrating. It’s been over a year since I had my initial surgery. To make it back for seven months to play a game and then being out again takes its toll. With my age, I don’t want to miss games. You want to be involved. I was bowling fast and well before this injury. I started off, and I was at that level. Couldn’t get back till now,” he added.

    Time is against Mark Wood

Currently, since he is 36 years old, there is little chance for the right-arm fast bowler to make a strong comeback on a long-term basis. Before further delay, they now aim to bounce back in a significant way. For a cricketer who has immense potential, talent and experience at the highest level of the game, it is extremely disappointing for Mark Wood to spend month after month away from international matches.

His current contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will remain valid until the autumn. Will he be able to move forward towards his goal when the time comes? The coming few weeks are going to be very important for Wood.
