Wrexham and its co-owner, Ryan Reynolds, dreamed of making it to the Premier League. However, it all fell apart near the finish line.
In a high-risk match with Middlesbrough, the match ended in a tight tie, with both teams tied 2–2.
But the result dashed the Red Dragons’ hopes of reaching the Elite League for the fourth time as they crashed out of the play-offs.
To add insult to injury, Hull beat Norwich 2–1 to clinch the final play-off spot.
Yet Reynolds – who bought Wrexham with Rob McElhenney in 2021 – is heartbroken yet defiant.
In a tweet on X, the dead pool The star wrote, “I’m completely disappointed with today’s result but we’re incredibly proud of our season. We’ve come a long way in five years, and this was the best result in our 150+ year history. There’s more to do. But right now, we have a lot to be proud of, Reds.”
Reiterating his support of Reynolds, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson released a statement, “This team stands by pre-season and will be even stronger next year.”
He concluded, “Of course we will always try to add to it and give ourselves an even better chance.”
