Redondo Beach officials called on the public Sunday morning to evacuate and avoid the Redondo Beach Pier.

“Police activity on the pier. Any persons in the area of ​​the pier are requested to evacuate,” the statement said. “Catalina (Avenue) is closed between Torrance (Boulevard) and Beryl (Street). Please avoid the pier area until further notice.”
The Times has contacted the Redondo Beach Police Department for more information regarding the unfolding situation. The department issued an update at 11:57 a.m. ET saying the pier would remain closed until further notice.
Sunday was also the final day of the Redondo Beach-set BeachLife festival, which was scheduled to open doors at noon and include musical performances from My Morning Jacket, Peach Pit, Sheryl Crow and James Taylor.
The Times has not yet received a response from Beachlife Festival organizers regarding their current plans for Sunday’s events.
