Thoughts on today’s verse…
Humility is not our culture’s most valuable asset or most desirable character trait. However, humility is needed – not because it is commanded (although that would suffice), but because we have “earned” the need for humility through the sacrifice of our ego and our love for God and His character, compassion and faithful loving kindness. Every year there is another wave of major failures in morality, character and spirituality among both our political and religious leaders. Even on our best days, we all fall short of God’s holiness. Instead of progressing culturally, we find ourselves slipping, rebelling, and humiliating ourselves. Our need to approach God with humility is “earned.” So let us humble ourselves and call upon GodThrowing away your sins and seeking Him. Only then will we begin to see our hope for a brighter future emerge and people get treatment.
My prayer…
Holy and Almighty God, Your deeds are wonderful, Your faithfulness is tremendous, and Your mercy and grace are such blessings. I come to you knowing that despite the incredible distance between you and me, between your worth and holiness and my lack, you hear me. I admit that I, and my culture and the country around me, have wasted the wonderful blessing you gave us. We humbly request you to reassert yourselves in our churches, nations, and leaders in clearly recognizable ways. At the same time, we humbly admit our personal failures, arrogance and rebellion. We ask for your grace, with faith, through the power and loving mercy found in Jesus and his name. Amen.
