The severe weather outbreak on Wednesday has left a path of destruction across the far south. At least two destructive tornadoes moved through Mississippi, according to several other reports throughout the region.
The National Weather Service (NSW) has issued a rare tornado emergency, reserved for the most dangerous, life-threatening situations where a large tornado is confirmed to have hit a populated area.
The most affected areas are located in Mississippi and central Alabama, particularly along the 1-20 corridor.
At least two violent, destructive tornadoes ripped through parts of Mississippi, destroying multiple homes and injuring people, prompting emergency warnings and rescue efforts for a rare “particularly dangerous situation” tornado in some of the hardest-hit areas, according to reports. cnn.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and local responders are currently conducting door-to-door investigations in the hardest-hit areas.
Consistent with forecasters’ rare language to emphasize their high confidence in the threat of long-lasting violent tornadoes.
While the initial lines of supercells have passed through some areas, the threat of severe weather remains for parts of southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle as of Thursday morning.
In addition to the tornadoes, the system produced lightning and significant flooding, causing over 5 inches of rainfall in some locations.
