    Let’s make one thing clear. I like long nails. they are amazing. However, I prefer short nails for myself for three reasons. First, they are more practical. When I have a long, almond-shaped set, it takes me a little longer to complete everyday tasks like typing. Second, they’re easy to maintain, especially if I’m on a DIY manicure kick. Third, they have a cool, fresh and modern energy that I can’t explain.

    I’m a firm believer that certain nail designs and colors look best on short nails, which is why I constantly update my personal color palette based on the season, trending colors, and my many moods. This spring, I’m experimenting with everything from bold poppy red to whimsical lilac, stylish cerulean and sophisticated vanilla cream.     In the ever-changing world of beauty, there are only a few arguments I’ve staunchly defended for a decade or more. One of them is that orange-red (aka, poppy red) is highly underrated and, at times, more attractive than the standard blue-tinged red. Yes, this is a hill I’ll die on. It’s fascinating! confident! This fresh and detailed shade evokes clean clothes blowing in the wind, flowing water and the color of the sky on a warm spring day.     I’ll be the first to admit that this is a surprising color choice for me lately. In the past, I hated purple, convincing myself that the bold color matched the reds and pinks of my skin. Although I haven’t completely mended my relationship with purple (I still avoid many shades of it), I have come to love bright, whimsical lilac hues. They’re fun, attention-grabbing, and surprisingly charming. Plus, they feel very relevant for spring.

    Light pink is a classic (read: obvious) choice for spring, but lately I’ve been loving it a little more. Maybe it’s because I recently restocked my tried-and-true shade – OPI bubble bath ($12)—At a late-night CVS stop, but the pale pink color felt extra soft, pretty, and pretty. It’s forever chic, timeless and elegant. I believe it is equivalent to wearing flower petals on your fingers.
