Shows like ‘DTF St. Louis’ you should watch next

Shot with a dash of black comedy that wouldn’t look out of place in a Coen Brothers film, Patriot This is the story of a troubled intelligence officer who can’t find rest. Michael Dorman is John Tavener, tasked with ensuring the leading candidate for the presidency of Iran Not there. win. An elaborate scheme to support a more liberal rival candidate sees him take on a non-official cover identity and get a job at a Milwaukee piping firm. deadlock (2023- )

Both a complex crime procedural and a brilliant satire of the genre, this Australian import follows Dulcie Collins (Kate Box), the flamboyant Senior Sergeant of the police force in the fictional town of Deadloch. When a body washes up on the beach, Dulcie is joined by Madeleine Sami’s Eddie Radcliffe, a typically obnoxious detective brought in to help solve the case. Unraveling the web of secrets in the small Tasmanian town is addictive, and as an added bonus, police thriller tropes are ruthlessly mocked. A new season is coming soon. chair company (2025- )

Tim Robinson and Zack Kanin follow up on their Netflix sketch show I think you should go with Tim Robinson Also… great comedy/thriller? Somehow this unrealistic, genre-defying caper broke an HBO Max record, and deservedly so. Robinson plays Ron Trosper, a middle manager in charge of the construction of a new shopping mall. A falling chair during a public presentation sends Ron on a quest to uncover a larger conspiracy – he’s convinced the broken chair is the first rung on the ladder of sabotage. The show sends us on a very strange, sometimes frightening, trip down the rabbit hole with him, which still, feels like a reflection of a modern American work culture that is no less crazy than the plot of Ron’s Chairs. Shrink Next Door (2021)

A dark comedy based on a true story, the miniseries stars Will Ferrell as Marty Markowitz and Paul Rudd as his therapist, Dr. Ike Hershkoff. Over the course of nearly thirty years, the good doctor insinuates himself into Marty’s life, collecting payouts of several million dollars. Ferrell and Rudd play against type, leaning into the show’s central mystery: How does a reasonable person give someone so much control over their existence? This is by no means serious, as the show also recognizes that there is a great deal of absurdity in the relationship between the two. Stream Shrink Next Door on Apple TV+.

tracer (2024)

Its concerns are less domestic. dtfYet it’s firmly in dark comedy/murder mystery territory. tracer This takes us to the quaint Irish coastal town of the title. Will Forte plays Gilbert Power, an American podcaster who comes to investigate the case of three people who went missing during the Samhain festival three decades ago. He is soon joined by Dublin-born journalist Dove Maloney (Siobhan Cullen), who was living in London, and aspiring journalist Amy Sizergh (Robyn Cara). It’s more or less a satire of the genre, yet with a fascinating mystery at its center. Stream tracer on netflix.

Perpetual Grace Limited (2019)

A cult favorite that didn’t last long, this was another distinctive Steven Conrad series (co-created with Bruce Terris) that wasn’t like anything else on TV. jimmy simpsonIt’s always sunny in Philadelphia) plays James, a troubled and depressed former firefighter in rural New Mexico who is drawn into a scheme by Paul (Damon Herriman), the son of local pastor “Pa” Brown (Ben Kingsley). Pa is a bad guy who is harassing his parishioners through a shady rehab center. Paul figures he can get James to infiltrate the center and rob the suspicious priest, while an equally crooked local sheriff (Luis Guzman) keeps Pa out of the way. It’s a juicy and addictive neo-noir thriller, with wonderfully stylized dialogue you’ll recognize dtf. Purchase Perpetual Grace Limited from prime video and apple tv.

landscape (2021)

Another in the truth-is-stranger-than-fiction genre, this dark comedy does several things that make it significantly more interesting and far more strange than the typical true crime story. The first great choice is in its casting: Olivia Colman and David Thewlis play Susan and Christopher Edwards, a mild-mannered couple who are revealed to have murdered Susan’s parents and buried them in the back garden while still sending their parents Christmas cards for the “holidays.” The show cleverly doesn’t try too hard to understand the motives, but instead questions our need to understand people like Susan and Edward. ‘burbs (2026- )

a little silly than dtfThis fun, loose adaptation of the 1989 Tom Hanks film nonetheless covers the same ground: secrets, infidelity, and murder in unlikely places. Keke Palmer’s Samira and Jack Whitehall’s Rob move back to their impossibly safe and clean hometown, their new house across the street from a dilapidated Victorian look that may or may not have been the site of a murder a few decades ago – of a girl who just wanted out. As Sameera adjusts to new motherhood as well as life in prison, she discovers that even her best neighbors (played by Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Prokash and Kapil Talwalkar) have secrets, and she suspects that her husband knows more about the missing girl than he is letting on. dead to me (2019 – 2022)

Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini (also included dtf) Make one of the greatest TV couples of all time in this dark, twisty comedy about some women who become united in tragedy and lies. Applegate is Jane Harding, a realtor whose husband was killed in a hit-and-run incident; She is not behaving very well, and takes a little inspiration from Cardellini’s Judy, who has maintained a cheerful disposition after her fiancé Steve’s death from a heart attack – easy to do since Steve is still secretly alive. And then we learn that Judy has a storage unit that contains a car that looks suspiciously like the car that killed Jane’s husband. How to get to heaven from belfast (2026- )

Possibly the most extreme, unrealistic show on this list (which is saying a lot), how to go to heaven Irish playwright and comes from dairy girls creator Lisa McGee, though that old and justifiably beloved show won’t prepare you for McGee’s latest. Three high school friends from Belfast reunite after learning that their fourth bestie has died unexpectedly – except maybe she didn’t die, which is a mixed blessing considering they all have secrets they were hoping to bury. Now they’ve set out to investigate a murder mystery, and quickly find themselves in over their heads (way in the way). The tone is all over the place in a way that somehow really works.
