Star Wars star John Boyega, who played Finn, confirmed that he had spoken with Dave Filoni, the new president of Lucasfilm, following Kathleen Kennedy’s exit.
As Variety reports, it’s unclear what the two discussed, but the revelation came after a fan at MegaCon Orlando asked him about “putting Dave on the phone” in reference to his return to the franchise.
“Actually I have,” playfully replied Boyega, who debuted in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, then reprized the role in the follow-up films in the trilogy, 2017’s The Last Jedi and 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
A black actor starring in the Star Wars universe received racist and toxic reactions online from a section of fans.
Boyega, in addition to calling them out, also aims his criticism at Disney, the studio behind Star Wars, claiming it has screwed up diversity in the trilogy.
He told GQ in 2020, “What I would say to Disney is, don’t bring in a black character, market them to be far more important to the franchise than they are, and then sideline them. That’s not cool. I’ll say it straight.”
These comments are part of a number of comments Boyega has made since his debut in Star Wars, in response to what he said were racist attacks against him, and Disney’s response to addressing them was not good.
