Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have had a disappointing campaign so far in the ongoing Tata Indian Premier League 2026 (Tata IPL 2026). LSG’s big money players have been the biggest flop this season and the situation looks worse than last season.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are currently at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table with 6 losses in 8 matches. They are currently preparing for their next encounter in the tournament against another struggling team, Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 4 at the Wankhede Stadium.
LSG get Josh Inglis boost but lose Mathieu Bretzke ahead of MI clash in IPL 2026
Ahead of their crucial IPL 2026 clash with Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants have received a big boost and a big blow at the same time. According to the report of ESPN Cricinfo, Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis has joined the LSG squad ahead of their important match.

At the same time, South African batsman Matthew Britzke left the Lucknow team in the middle of the season due to personal reasons. There is still no clarity on whether he will return to India or not. Breitzke reportedly returned home because a close relative of his wife’s family had recently passed away.
Well, Inglis’s return comes at a crucial time, as LSG is in dire need of a change in the ongoing IPL 2026. The Australian star has started training with the team. He is available for direct selection and could be included in the playing eleven against Mumbai Indians.

Josh Inglis ready for fresh start after PBKS release
LSG bought Inglis for Rs 8.60 crore after he was released by Punjab Kings (PBKS) ahead of IPL 2026 due to limited availability. He had previously informed PBKS that his availability would be limited this season due to his wedding plans, which will take place in Western Australia in April.
During his time with PBKS, Inglis was one of their aggressive batsmen, scoring 278 runs in 11 innings and changing the pace in pressure situations. LSG are now hoping he can bring stability and aggression to their middle order, which has struggled badly this season.
Inglis set for direct entry into LSG XI as foreign stars fail miserably
Lucknow Super Giants’ camp has been in a poor state as their overseas batting lineup has not performed as per expectations. Big names like Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh have failed to perform consistently.

Especially Puran is struggling badly. With the departure of Bretzke and the poor performance of the big names, Inglis may get an immediate chance in the playing eleven against MI at the Wankhede Stadium.
The Lucknow team management is seriously considering changes as they try to fix their batting problems for the remaining games, which could include adjusting the batting order or bringing in new players to improve their performances.
LSG faces tough schedule as IPL 2026 playoff hopes hang in limbo
The upcoming schedule of LSG is also very difficult. After facing Mumbai Indians on May 4, they will host Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Lucknow on May 7, followed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 10 in Lucknow on May 15 and a big match against Rajasthan Royals on May 17.
They will be aiming to stave off surprise setbacks to keep their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive, as they have already failed to make it to the 2024 and 2025 seasons, which puts additional pressure on their performance in these upcoming matches.
