Rita Wilson lifts the curtain on one of the greatest lessons she learned from Bruce Springsteen about songwriting and creativity.
On April 28, the 69-year-old American actress and singer spoke at the Sound of a Woman: Rita Wilson in Conversation with Demi Moore event at 92NY in New York City.
During the program, Wilson admitted that she was unsure about her decision to pursue songwriting and was struggling with anxiety at the time when Springsteen helped calm her down by sharing some words of wisdom.
Recalling Mann, he shared, “We were talking about songwriting one day… He was actually giving a masterclass on it. And so when there was a pause, I said to him, ‘What makes me think I can start writing now that you’ve been writing your whole life?’ And he said, “Because, Rita, creativity is independent of time.”
“And I thought it’s true, like, who has a watch? Who has a watch out there that says, ‘I’m sorry, this was supposed to be in 1985?'” my boss the hitmaker noted.
After her meaningful conversation with the acclaimed singer-songwriter and musician, Wilson now thinks that “We have a lot of limiting beliefs – our own beliefs – but there are also societal beliefs that say, ‘You can’t do this, or it’s not acceptable.'”
“And I’m here to break some rules. When I was a teenager I was never a rule breaker, a rebel in any sense. I’m going to be one now,” even more mine Croner said with determination.
It is pertinent to mention that after devoting her life completely to her favorite work, Rita Wilson released her sixth studio album, a woman’s voice, On 1 May 2026.
