Garmin recently announced that it is adding two new watches to its lineup With Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170Which are priced at $249.99 and $299.99 respectively. Garmin is confident that the new models will come with everything runners need for their training and much more. According to the company:
Purposefully designed with everything a runner needs to begin their running journey, the Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170 include premium running and training features taken from our more advanced Forerunner, as well as popular health and wellness metrics. No matter the goal, these smartwatches are the perfect tools to help new and aspiring runners count every step.
That being said, both models feature 1.2-inch AMOLED displays and a hybrid interface that combines touch input with a five-button design. Notably, the Forerunner 70 includes all the essentials, including built-in GPS, wrist-based heart rate monitoring, and the new Quick Workout feature, which generates tailored sessions based on the user’s desired time and intensity.

Users can also access adaptive plans with Garmin Coach and daily suggested workouts that now include run/walk options, advanced metrics like training readiness, HRV status, and even running dynamics. Garmin says the Forerunner 70 can last up to 13 days of battery life in smartwatch mode.
The more expensive model of the pair, the Forerunner 170, will feature contactless payments via Garmin Pay for on-the-go transactions, in addition to other features found in its sibling. There’s also an expensive Forerunner 170 Music Edition ($349.99), which allows users to download playlists directly from third-party services for phone-free listening. However it should be noted that the 170 series comes with “only” 10 days of battery life.
